Mick & Tibor

If you have been around SEKU for a while you may well remember the squad heading to Slovakia once a year for the Christmas competition. It was always a good way to introduce yourself to some of the more physical aspects of kumite especially in the days of no mitts. They were bruising encounters but such was the camaraderie we enjoyed every minute and the squad often become closer as a team because of it. We haven’t been there for a number of years but I was invited across this year by Tibor Mikus, head of Slovakian Karate as a special guest and it was a most welcome invite.

I was extremely well looked after for the whole time as always; being collected by my own private chauffeur and everyday a new body guard, in reality, an old friend taking me here there and everywhere including, as guest, to the competition itself on the Saturday. Here are a few photographs of the event sent by the lovely Renata who was my interpreter. No my Slovakian hasn’t gotten any better. They are a great bunch of people and Slovakia is a lovely country if you are heading that way. When you get to the border tell them Mick sent you.
